GERMANS IN RETREAT. Londo!!, Thursday. The Daily Telegraph's correspcndent at Petrograd states that 48 trains have been despatched to Lodz for the conveyance of prisoners, indicating that at least an army corps has i been captured en masse. The Ger- ','. manß are retreating along the whole line. The retrsat in places is a panic-stricken rout. Howitzers, field guns, ammunition, and stores have ! been x abandoned in large quantities. ' One account states that an entire army corps has been captured with artillery and transport, at:d that another army corps has been practically annihilated. The Daily Mail says that the Russians fighting at" Lodz surrounded a German division of 15,000,' which surrendered. Another is hopelessly placed, and is expected to be captured, making a total of 50,000 prisoners. If the Russians' strategy succeeds this will be the biggest news of the whole war. Thirty-six trains left Warsaw to bring in prisoners.
