LAWN TENNIS.
KING COUNTRY V. HAMILTON
Thn first outside fixture for season 1914-15 was played on the Taumarunui Club's courts on Saturday last, between a representative team, selected from the affiilated club 3, and the representatives of the Hamilton Lawn Tennis Club. The match was really a return to that played at Hamilton last saason, and it is a peculiar coincidence that while Hamilton last year defeated King Country on the sand courts by 17 matches tu 7, King Country reversed the order on the aspalt courts on.Sat-irday last. The weather was ideal for play, which was commenced at about 10 a.m. The three courts avaialble were kept busy the wnole day in order to get the 24 matches completed, and the thanks of the players are especially due to Messrs Allftins, Needham, and Winger for their able services as umpires, and for their assistance in getting the matches through. The King Country Association entertained the visitors to lunch at the courts and to dinner at the Grand Hotel, and altogether a very enjoyable day was spent, the visitors returning home by the midnight epxress The play, taking into consideration tnat the season has only just commenced, was really very creditable throughout, and the King Country team is to be complimented on having such able lady players to support it. Out of 15 matches in which the ladies participated two only were lost. The final scores resjlted—King Country, 17 matches—24o games; Hamilton, 7 matches—l6B games.
