ARIA.
Own Correspondent. On Wednesday the election of the councillors for the Waitomo County Council took place. This event only takes place once in three years, and Mr P. D. Smyth was opposed by Mr C. J. Riddle for the Aria riding. There were two polling booths in the riding, the chief b*ing at Aria, where 79 voteß were cast for Mr Smyth and 65 for Mr Riddle. Mr Geo. Petrie waa deputy-returning officer. Much interest was shown in the election all the way through. Mr Smyth had in his favour the fact that his other work akes him all overt the riding, so much so that he knows evrey road and bridge.e By thia knowledge he can be of great assistance to the engineers of the Council. The election waa conducted all the way through with the best of good feeling. On Friday evening of last week the inhabitants of Aria and surrounding districts had an opportunity to enjoy a moving picture entertainment in the hall. The room was crowded with an appreciative audience. A very enjoyable dance followed. t Dry weather still continues and a good day's rain ia required. £,The vegetation is making small progress and the springs are dying up.
