A PATHAN EXPLOIT.
WURTEMBURG TROOPS SURPRISED. London, Thursday.
The Daily Telegraph says that the Pathan exploit south of Ypres, which was described in Tuesday's cables, has created a sensation in tha army. The real facts are as follows: — ;' Air scouts reported thai; a Btrong body of Wurtemburg troops had approached. A ssction of Pathans was detailed to watch the roads. They returned to camp and reported that several thousand Wurtemburg troops were near Hollebeke. The Pathans cut down ths enemy's sentries, and a whole battalion of Pathans then advanced at night with knives between their teeth, while bodies of Moroccans were posted on both tha German flanks. The Germans were attacked on three sides before they realised their danger. The Pathans, with terrifying leaps, made a tjger-like attack, which resulted in an indescribable fray. The Germans fired, their machine guna wildly. Their infantry were utterly unable to locate the main attack for a while. Tha G:T mans retreated in disorder. They were strorgly reinforced, and ordered to recover the ground. The Allies, with the Pathans still in the van, allowed them to come within a hundred yards, and then wiped out the first detachment. Finally the Pathans, followed by the Moon, rushed the village of Hollebeke, and killed all who did not surrender. They drove another Wurtemburg battalion into Lys, where it surrendered. The whole fight lasted five hours.
