BRITISH GUNBOAT SUNK.
TORPEDOED BY SUBMARINE
Londun, Thursday.
The Official Press Bui/eau reports that a submarine topedoed the British gunboat Niger in the Downs. All the officers, and 77 of the crew, were saved. Thousands of spectators were on the aea-fro?it watching a hundred ships anchored in the Downs, when suddenly an explosion occurred, and Bmoke was seen rising from the Niger, which was two miles out. The Niger sank in 20 minutes. Three survivors were injured by the explosion. A submarine was ssen by torpado coats patrolling the Downs, but they failed to catch it.
