COUNTY COUNCIL ELECTIONS.
WAITOMO COUNTY.
The elections for. the Waitomo County Council this year gave rise to considerable interest from the fact that in three ridings the old members were meeting with opposition, while in the new Tangitu riding there was also a contest. Chief interest centred in the result of the ilangatiki riding cuntest in which Mr A. Scholes was opposed by Mr J. Boddie. When the returns were posted it was seen that Mr Scholes had succeeded in retaining his seat by a majority of 16, the voting being 74 to 59. At Aria Mr P. D. Smyth was opposed by Mr C. Riddle, the figures being 92 to 64. In the Paemako riding there was a triangualr contest Mr P. O'Dwyer, who has represented the riding for about five years being opposed by Messrs Jackson and Lindsay. An extremely close contest resulted in Mr Jackson being elected by a majority of 7 votes, the results being: Jackson 108, O'Dwyer 101, Lindsay 8. At Tangitu Messrs A. S. Warren and P. Clark contested the new riding, the former being elected by a majority of 4 votes, the the figures being Warren 41, Clark 37 The oid member for Otorohanga, Mr R. Gregg, having retired from the Council, the issue was left to two new candidates in Messrs J. Willis and P. D. Hargreaves, the former being returned by 85 votes to 72. In the ridings of Te Kuiti, Mairoa, Waitomo, and Te Rau-a-Moa there Were no contests, the old members, Messrs G. Berry, R. Were, W. Johnston, and F. Potts being returned unopposed. The meeting for the election of chairman for the ensuing period Will take place on Wednesday, November 25tn, at noon, in the County Chambers, Te Kuiti.
