VALUE OF RYE.
Hera is a small item which contains a big truth in farm management:--"The greater the amount of decaying vegetable matter you can incorporate in the soil the better will ba your, crops, even in bad seasons." Very rarely do we see a farmer turning under a good crop of secondTgro«Bth clover. It stems to ham like a big waste. So also is it rare to see farmers sow rye in the autumn on ground from which taken, to turn under the next spring. A bushel of rye to the acre after a good thorough discing will make a tine cover crop for winter. Then, when turned under in the spring, it helps put a lot of needed humus in the land. Then, besides, you can paßture your cows on it and get a lot of milk two weeks in advance of the regular pasture. / 1 /
