TURKEY OPENS HOSTILITIES.
WARSHIPS ACTIVE. MINES LAID BY GOEBEN. RUSSIAN STEAMERS SUNK. Received this day, 9.25 a.m. Petrograd, Friday. The uruiser Hamidieh demanded the surrender of Novu'Jossyks and the Government property, threatening to bombard tha town in the event of a refusal. After taking off the Consulate officials the cruiser disappeared. The Breslau bombarded Theodosia. As soon as it was known Turkey had opened hostilities against Russia, there were demonstrations in front of the British and French embassies and Allies' legations at Petrograd. Representatives of the Powers sppeared on the balconies addressed the crowds. The Russian steamer Valta struck mine laid by the Goeben. Tha crew and passengers were saved. The Careb, which was going to the assistance of the Vaita. struck two mines also, and sank. Several were drowned.
ODESSA BOMBARDED. BY TURKISH WARSHIPS. Received this day, 10.10 a.m. Petrograd, Friday Two Turkish destroyers shelled Odessa harbour and sank a merchant vessel. TURKEY'S ACTION ANTICIPATED WAR WITH TRIPLE ENTENTE. Received this day, 8.45 a.m. x London, Friday. ■ .Reuter's Constantinople coneßporfdent stated on Tuesday ths situation was wearing breaking point. The British Ambassador on Monday informed the Grand Vizier if the Turks crossed the Egyptian frontier it would mean war with the Triple Entente and its allies. The embassies made arrangements in anticipation of a rupture.
