COUNTY COUNCIL ELECTIONS.
KEEN CONTESTS ANTICIPATED. Tha forthcoming election for the County Council promises to provides little extra excitement in ■ local politics. In several of the ridings there will be contests for the seat, among thosß mentioned being Otoro■hangs, Hangatiki; Paemako, and MaiI roa. At Otqrhanga Mr J. Willis and Mr P. D. Hargrsaves will oppose the sitting councillor, Mr R; Gregg, and other candidates ain possible. At Hangatiki tha sitting councillor, Mr A. Scholes, who has been County, chairman for the .past five years, will be opposed by Mr J. and a keen contest ia anticipated. Mr P. O'Dwyer, who has represented Paemako for several years, will be opposed by Mr Jackson, of Puketiti, and Mr Lindsay, of Mangaotaki. The contest for Mairoa is said to be likely to eclipse" anything which has previously taken place in the riding. It is not certain who will ba selected to oppose Mr -R. Were, who has done excellent work on t-b.9 Council for the past six years, but Mr Sellara is again mentioned as a likely aspirant.
