AFRICAN REBELLION.

OFFER OF SURRENDER. MARITZ WANTS PARDON. , <• Capetown/' Sunday. It is understood that Colonel Maritz's force consists of a thousand rebels, 75 German gunners, and a few maxims and field guns. Maritz endeavoured to retire to German territory, but a strong A"gloBoer column cut him off. Maritz recently offered to surrender provided he and hia followers were pardoned and She Gsrmans allowed to return. The offer waß ignored. Colonel Maritz on Thursday last attacked Keßnioes, near Upingtonh, on the northern bank of the Orange river. The garrison of 150 men repulsed the enemy, capturing four of Msritz's officers, including Count von Schierin, a German officer.

THE REBELS' TREATY. INCREASE GERMAN TERRITORY. Pretoria, Monday. The Government has published the text of tha treaty beween Colonel Maritz and the Governor of German South-west Africa extending the boundary of German territory to the centre or the Orange river, and also declaring that Germany wuuld not object to the new South African republic taking Delagoa Bay, in Portuguese East Africa. REBELS DEFEATED. MARITZ WOUNDED BUT ESCAPES. Received Tuesday, 9.40 p m. Capetown, Tuesday. Official.—Maritz has been completely defeated at Kakamas. He was wounded and fled to German territory.
