THE HMAKT SET. That brigt little company of capable people, the Smart Sot, will anpear at the People'. l ! Picture Palace, Into Town Hall, on Tuesday next. The misßion ,of the Smart Sot is to entertain and | amuse, and they generally manage to succeed in their self-imposed task. To ensure success it in admitted that diligent attention to the work in hand must lie considered an essential feature. The complete manner in which Mr tlranscombe's talented companies present their bright entertain' ment ia a vindication of any accusation which may he madti against thetn of leading an idle life. Constant rehearsal is the keynote of the Smart Set duccesß. The people who will appear on Tuesday next are said to be extremely versatile. They sinj£ well, dance acceptably, and frisk around the stage in quite an unorthodox manner. The Smart Set, will, during their performance, submit several operatic selections, anri will also bo heard in the latest songs. Their humour in concerted comedy numbers is described as delightfully fresh, and serves to introduce .".II the latest "gaga" and hits. Their versatility iB such that nothing appears to be at all impossible in the way of entertainment. Though few in numbers, the members of this company have the happy knack of currying their programme through with delightful oobp. The Smart Sel. have three excellent cotnodians, v : ionu humour is said to be such thai the audience are kept in a constant of merriment throughout the cveniti;>. The plan is at W. PEOPLE'S PICTURE PALACE. An all-star programtno will bo screened this evening rik'l Monday including a film that has never yet been screened in New Zealand, entitled "A Celohrated Case," one of the Kalern Co's. greatest productions. The supporting lilmo rank amongst; the best, and the picture-loving piitruns have in store for their evening's enjoyment ane exceptionally good programme. "A Celebrated Case" oun only ho shown for two nights to-night and Monday. EMPRESS PICTURES. The usual change of programme wilJ be screened at the Empress to-night and Monday night. The star picturi.', entitled "The Wolves of the Under world," will be supported by » varied programme of comedy, dramatic, scenic, topical and educational subjects, including another of Keystone's popular comedies entitled "Cruel, Cruel Love." On Tueertay and Wednr.sady a Vitagraph ster, :5000ft, ontitled "The Wreck," will be screened. The picture shows a startling rail - broad sensation. An absolutely lifelike head on collision, the engines are twisted to scrap iron, and cars cast from the rails. Tiie cost of producing this startling feature waa £lO,000.
