TE KUITI BULB SHOW AND INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION.

The first annual Spring Show and Industrial Exhibition, promoted under the auspices of the Methodist Church, was held on Thursday and' Friday in the Alexandra Hall. The function was opened at 3 o'clock on Thursday by the president, his Worship the Mayor. In declaring the show open Mr Boddie remarked that a number of circumstances existed that would seriously militate against an exhibition of this kind. The very wet day prevented many people attending, and exhibiting; the international unrest was also calculated to interfere with all social functions ic was eloquent testimony to tha efficiency of the British Navy that at such a time we could carry on our business and social life without any great inconvenience. It gave him pleasure to be present at the inauguration of a combined show and industrial exhibition. The schedule showed that the "promoters had enterprise, and hp was sure that this was only t'ae beginning of a very useful and interesting function, and that n9x't year's ahow would be a great advance on the present one. A vote of thanks to the Mayor, proposed by Rev. P. Battey, was enthusiastically carried. Owing to the haavy rain that fell on Thursday morning, many people who had sent in entries, especially those on the outlying districts, were unable to get their exhibits to the show. ' But in spite of this handicap, the hall was fairly well filled, and some good exhibits were on show. Tha fancy, needlework, and the children's school work each had very fine specimens. In addition to the exhibits, thpre were also stalls of articles for sale —Plain stall, in charge of Mesdames Wilton, Higgs, and Nicholls; fancy work, Meßdames Daniel and Williams sweet stall, Mrs J. E. Howse and Miss Ogier; tea roms, Mesdames Cantell, Elliott and helpers. Messrs T.
