ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
MOTOR CAR SMASH. OTOROHANGA RESIDENT INJURED. By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent. Otorjbanga, This Day. On Tuesday afternoon as Mr C. Phillips, accompanied by two friends, Messrß Carson and Henderson, were motoring from Pirongia to Otorohanga, be met with a serious accident. As the party was passing a cutting near Mr Symes' house, the car suddenly went over the bank and dropped into the creek 50 feet below, all the occupants being thown out'and Mr Phillips sustaining serious injuries On the arrival of Dr Leeper, from Otorohnga, it wag found that Mr Phillips had suffered a fractured jaw, and his face was so severely cnt that 20 stitches had to be put in. Half of his ear was missing, and there is a possibility of his having some ribs broken. Mr Whyte, of Otorohanga, accompanied by Dr Leepsr. brought him into Otorohanga, and he was taken to the Hamilton Hospital by the midnight express. The other occupants uf the car escaped more lightly, Mr Carson sustaining a slight injury to his head. The car lies in the creek, and u a total wreck. TE KUITI QUARRY ACCIDENT. BOROUGH WORKMAN INJURED. A man named William Rundle, employed at the Borough Council's quarry near Te Kumi met with a somewhat serious accident on Monday morning. He wa3 working on top of the hoppers of th? crushing plant when he missed his footing and fell to the ground, a distance of about forty feet. Rundle sustained a broken leg and was severely shaken. He was taken by the express to the Hamilton Hospital, where he is doing as well as can be expected.
