PRISONERS FROM SAMOA.
EX-GOVERNOR IN AUCKLAND. The four prisoners of war, brought from Fiji by the Bteamer Navua, were conducted'to their quarters on Motuihi Island on Thursday. The party comprised the late Governor of Samoa, Dr E. Schulz, his secretary, Herr Mars, the wireless expert at Samoa, Herr Hirscb, and a Hongkong merchant, Herr Hansen. A fairly large crowd was present at the wharE to secure a glimpse of the prisoners, but if the people expected ' anything spectacular they must have been disappointed. The proceedings were qaiet and lacking in display. Colonel C. T. Major, D.5.0., officer commanding the Auckland military district, and Major C. R. Mac Donald, general staff officer, were present. The members of the little party were first taken to the troopship Waimana. where they remained temporarily, until thß arrangements at Motuihi Island were completed. Later the ex Governor and his, fallow prisoners were taken on board the ferry Bteamer Condor, and were transferred to the island. An efficient guard has been mounted there. Dr Schulz is of typical German appearance, and is about 50 years of age. Among his fellow passengers he earned the reputation of being quiet and unassuming, and a most pleasant companion. The proceeding? appeared to have little interest for him, aand he spent most' of Ins time gaily conversing with the friends he made on the voyage.
