WIDESPREAD SUPPORT

An excellent response is being made throughout the district in connection with the Patriotic Fund, and entertainment of various sorts are being promoted with a view to swelling the contribution. The' football match betweeen le Kuiti ; and Taumarunui native teams no' Thursday, resulted in the eCrm o-f £1 18s being handed over by the Nehsneha Club to the fund. At Pio Pio last night a grand concert in aid of the Fund was held, and the settlers from near and far took a hand in ensuring the success of the function. . >

The PatrtotiC\Pen at next Wednesday's stock sale at Te Kuiti promises to be a feature of the sale and entries of any kind will be acceptable. Contributions of fowls, ducks, and geese have been'promised, as well as the stock usually Bold, and townspeople as well as country settlers should attend in force. ,

At Mr L. J. Reynolds' clearing sale at Hangatiki a prize collie pup was put up for sale the proceeds to be de; votsd to the Patriotic Fund. The pup was sold several times and realised a total of £5 2s. , . ■-, .

The office and engineering ; staff of thß Waitomo County Council contributed a total of £2O 6a to the fund, the contributors being Messrs Gould £5, Mora £5, Callaghan £4, Clarke £3 3s, and Preßcott £3 3s. The Te Kuiti Liberal League is promoting a ball, to be held on Thursday. September lOth, the proceeds to be handed to the Mayor for the Patriotic Fund. The function, which is being onzanised by a ladies' committee, of which Mrs Howarth is president, and Mrs Clarke aacretary, i» to be held in,, the Alexandra Rink, and preparations in connection therewith are already in hand.
