STRIKE LEADERS RELEASED
In response to. an inquiry on Friday evening, the Hon. A. L. Herdman announced that, after consultation with the Chief Justice, the Government had decided to remit thd sentences of six out of ten men serving terms of imprisonment for offences arising out of the strike disturbances. The six men whose sentences had been remitted were: W. H. Lawton. Max Wolfe, C. F. Beaumont, Thomaß Ackland, H. Holland, and Karl Johnston. There s?ere four other rcen remaining in gaol, but three of them at least had prevoius convictions, one eight, snd another thirteen. In these cases, where the men were confirmed criminals,, it was considered best to ke?p them where they were. In the six cases in which the sentences were remitted the men were released on Saturday.
