HAKU AND MANGAOTAKI.

Own Correspondent. Owing partly to the roads breaking up so early,and partly to the fact that the bridge acros3 the Mangaotaki river is too narrow for any but a narrow guage waggon, and too shaky for any but an iron-nerved driver, the Beason as too short to allow a large amount of this district's requirements being carted in. One settler alone having about 20 tone of goods paid for and shut out, and in many cases where the bare necssariea of life have beer got in, the freights have cost more than the original cost of goodß. A meeting of ratepayers was held on Saturday, July 4th. It was unanimous that a roading scheme, embracing all the principal roads in the district, be entered into, and the councillors for this district be instructed to take the preliminary steps so that a loan may be raised to complete the formation and metal some 23 mies of road, of which 13 miles is in the Waitomo County, five in the Awakino County, and five conjointly between the two. In the event of the loan being carried, and it iB not expected there will be a vote aganist it, the district will make a stronger forward move, and the present output of 400 bales of wool, which the valley produces, will be doubled in the near future.
