WAITOMO COUNTY COUNCIL NOTICE OF INTENTION TO TAKE LAND IN THE MATTER of "The Counties Act 1908" AND "The Public Works Act 1908." NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Waitomo County Council pro poses under the provisions of the above-mentioned Acts to execute certain public works— namely the .metalling of the Kumara, and Kie Kie roatfs Kohna, Pio Pio-Aria,—and for the purposes of such public works respectively the lands described in the Schedule hereto are required to be taken. AND NOTICE IS HEREBY FURTHER GIVEN that Plans of the lands so required to be taken are deposited in the public office of the Clerk to the said Council situate in Taupiri street Te Kuiti and are open to inspection without fee by all persons during ordinary office hours. All persons affected by the execution of the said public works or by the taking of the said land 3 must state their objections in writing and send the same within fjrty days from the first publication of this notice to the said County Clerk at the Council Chambers aforesaid.

The Australian rifle team at Bisley won the Kolapore Cup, with Canada Becond and Britain third. Cross, a member of the team,won the All-com-ers' Aggregate with a total of 170. A private cablegram has been received. announcing the death of the Hon. John Blair Whyte, in London, formerly a member of the New Zealand Legislative Council. Mr Whyte was a farmer in the Waikato. At a meeting of the Imperial Coucil Research Fund Dr Baahford. general superintendent of the fund, discussing cancer houses, emphatically affirmed that there was no risk of infection because cases had occurred in them.
