LADIES' MATCH

On Thursday afternoon the Te Kuiti and Ohaupo ladies' hockey teams met at Cotters' Paaddock, and after a very strenuous game the visitors won by one goal to-nil. Prom the bully-off to the finish of the game matters were Btubbornly contested, both sides at. tacking alternately in quick succession. each team having many anxious moments. The only goal scored was shot by Miss McCann, and although, a trifle lucky, Ohaupo deserved their win, for thay infused quite a deal of energy into their piay all through the game. For Te Kuiti the Misses Bailey did real good work in attack, while Miss McConnell.saved remarkbly well. Miss B. McDonald, as usual, was to the fore in most rushes, but was not too wall supported, and few good chances were missed, some through off-side play by the local, girls. A feature of the match was the real splendid work done by, a very small girl, probably no more than twelve years old, in the Ohaupo team.'. She showed prominently in the rushes, and as a bully was first class. The visitors were hospitably entertained by the local ladies, ard returned home by the 9.50 p.m. train. Mr A. D. Spring was referee. MEN'S MATCH

Immediately the above match coneluded, the men's teams, ,Te Kuiti and Ohaupo, took the field, and the large attendance of the public Were treated to a very fast and interesting game from start to finish. The visitors played a much better combined game than the local team, only the very fine defence of the home backs saving the game. The second spell was particularly willing, ; and it was evident that the Ohaupo forwards Were in better training. However, the local backs, W. Hitchcock and T. Hetat did all that was a9ked of them, and together with the defence of the local goalkeeper. Power, undoubtedly saved the game. For the visitors the bully, Yorston, played a fine game, and was well supported by Gray. Of the backs, Edwards (captain) scarcely made a mistake. The lucal team all played quite as well as was expected, C. Hitchcock being the best of the forwards. Mr A. D Spring was referee. The visitors wera afterwards entertained at dinner at Morgan's Commercial Hotel, and later they attended the Empress Theatre.
