WAITOMO COUNTY COUNCIL.

I SPECIAL MEETING A special meeting of the Waitomo County Council was held on Monduy evening prior to the ordinary meeting. There were present Crs Scuolesfchair man), Johnston, Gregg, Were, Berry, Smytn, O'Dwyer, and Potts. The chairman's report and the bal-ance-sheet were submitted and adopt ed. The chairman was authorised to sign the balance sheet and get tba report and balance-sheet printed. Loan Resolutions —The necessary resolutions authorising tho raising of special loans were passed aa follows: —Reforming, metalling, and eulverting Kawa road and portion's of tho Ouruwhero road, £300; Ngapaenga road and portions of Tawarau and Mahoenui-Kawhia roads, £3500; Pio Pio-Mairoa road, £2000; Kumara, Kie Kie, and Paraheka roads, £7500. ORDINARY MEETING Te Kuiti-Rangitoto Road—The Public Works Department wrote enclosing an Order-in-Council declaring portion of the road to be a County roadReceived. Pungarefau Loan—The Advances Department wrote intimating that the balance of the loan had been granted (£9oo)—Received. Ouruwhero Loan—The Advances Department wrote intimating that the loan of £1250 bad been granted— Received. Kumara-Paraheke-Kio Kio Lean — The Advnces Department wrote intimating the granting of £7500 loan under the provisions of section 70 of the Local Bsdies Loanß Act, 1913 Received. Pio Pio Loan—The Advances Department wrote intimating the loan of £SOOO was granted and the previous loan of £2OOO rescinded—Recoived. Slaughterhouse Licenses—The renewals of licenses of C. B. Holloway, Aria; H. Robinson, Te Kuiti; J. Shaw, Te Rauamoa; T. S. Wells, Te Kuiti; J. Ormsby, Otorohanga, were granted. With reference to the application of Messrs Parkes and Gardiner, the Department wrote intimating its inability to grant the license until the premises were made to conform with the requirements of the Act. The New Zealand Farmers' Union wrote requesting information concerning native lands in the County—Received. Honikiwi Metal Reserve—Mr P. D. Hargreave3 wrote with respect to fencing the metal reserve on his property; also requesting permission to take metal from tho quarry for his own use—Both requests were granted. Wairere Road—J. Dollimore wrote objecting to be included in the special rating area for the Pio Pio-Aria road as he waa already included in a special rating area —Received. Access to Section—A. J. Hose, Mokauiti, wrote asking for an outlet from his section. Ha asked if the Council would put in 3 drain and culvert—Referred to engineer. Te Ahuroa Loan—J. Cornfoot wrote with respect to including his propertv in the special rating areas of Rangitoto and Te Ahuroa and stating he wished to have half the property included in the loan area for eaci road —Received. Kaea«a Roads—F. Elwooi wrote drawing attention to the bßd state of the Kaesea roods—The engineer said the Public Works Department was fixing the culvertß on the main road and the County was repairing the other roads. Rangiatea Roads—Messrs Collins Bros, wrote with respect to getting an access road through Maori land from the Otewa road—Resolved that the clerk reply pointing out the position. Pio Pio-Mairoa Loan—Messrs Do La Mara and Jackson wrote objecting to the inclusion of Kinohaku East block 4 section E and block 4 sec tion F 2 in tho special rating areaReceived. Okupata-Pekanui Road—The Kawhia County Council wrote asking the Council to co-operate in applying for a grant of £2OOO for completing the road.—The chairman Baid he had con ferred with the chairman of the Kawhia County, and application had been made. Defective Bridge- Me3STS Gillies and Sharpies wrote on behalf of Mr R. M. Somerville requesting payment of £5 value of a cow cirowned in the Mangapu stream owing to the faulty condition of the Mangapu bridgeMatter referred to County solicitors. Gates on Road—P. Nicklinson wrote requesting permission to place gates on Jroad at Kopaki—Granted subject to usual conditions. _ Tenders—Tho action ot the chairman in accepting tenders in the following contracts was approved: Mangaotaki Valley road, C. Maloney, £193 3a 9d; Maire road. C. Davey, £9O ss; additions to office, G. Marshall, £lB5. Road Grader--The engineer was authorised to procure a grader and the necessary ploughs and acoopa to carry out grading work. Te Kumi Road—Cr Were mentioned the matter of the breaking up of the road by carting from the borough quarry.—The engineer said, he had arranged for the Borough to put metal on the road. Accounts to the amount of £i974 4s Id were pasßed for payment. Securing Writer Supnly—On the motion of Crs O'Dwyer and Smyth, it was decided that the Council take the necessary steps to have the waterfall on the Pio Pio-Mairoa road taken under the Public Workß Act. County Rolls—On the motion of Crs Scholea and Berry, it was resolved that the Council apply for an Order-in-Council validating the extension uf time to prepare County Electors' rolls and Defaulters' lists as the adjusted valuation rollß have not yet been received from the Valuation Department. „ Hospital Levy—On the motu.n of Crs Gregg and Scholes, it whs tvBolved that the member for tho district be urged to übo hia influence to introduce legislation that will compel

Loan Area —On the motion of Crs Gregg and Potts, it was reeolvod that the County solicitorn bo authorised to draft n Private Bill empowering thi? County to inehde u portion of the West Taupo County in the Kio Kio Special rating area as security for tha Kio Kio special loan. Mangaotaki Messrs Daly, Lindsay and Verry waited on the Council with respect, tu thus Mangaotaki loan. Cr O'Dwyer said they wished to know the method of procedure in view of the two Counties being concerned. Ho understood tho deputation wished the (scheme shoald go through as a whole.
