HOCKEY.

The Kihikihi ladies' hockey team visited Te Kuiti on Thursday, when they met the local ladiea' team at Cotters' paddock. There was a very fair attendance of the public considering the early hour the match wa? played. The local captain, Miss B. McDonald, won the toss ana defended the southern goal. The game throughout the first' spell was slightly in favour of the visiting team, and ■, they missed scoring on several occasions by the narrowest of margins. Miss Guriter, in goal, cleverly saved thß local team. On changing ends the Te Kuiti forwards lost several chances, mainly through lack of combination. About half-way through the spell Te Kuiti rushed the ball into their opponents' circle mainly through the excellent play of Miss Muriel Bayly on the wing.. Misa B. McDonald'made the most of one of the only chances she received and shot what proved to be the only goal of the match. The visiting forwards made desperate attempts during the last Ww minutes to score, Miss Winnie Hendriksen being particularly prominent, but the local backs proved equal to the occasion and when the ! whistle blew both teams seemed somewhat relieved. The local team may consider themselves very fortunate in winning as the game all through was very even. Of the visiting forward?, Miss Winnie Hendriksen was as good as any player on the ground, but was ably supported by'Miasea McArdls, and of thn backs Miss Hendriksen, th« captain,, played' a very safe game. Misses B. McDonald, C. and M. Bayley were quite the best of the local team, Miss McCon,nell, while doing a of good work, was not. so sure as she usually is. The game throughout was a very enjoyable one. Mr C. F. Turner was eferee.
