LIGHT RAILWAY SCHEME.

MEETING OF SETTLERS. STEAM OR ELECTRICITY. The proposal to establish a light railway to serve the districts of Pio Pio, Aria, 3nd other localities in the vicinity and afford rail connection with the Main Trunk line, was again discussed at a meeting held at Pio Pio on Saturday. There was a good attendance of Bettlers, including Messrs P. O'Dwyer and P. Smyth, councillors for the ridings of Paemnko and Aria respectively, while Mr P. Mora, County clerk, was also present. Mr G. Jackson was voted to the chair. Mr O'Dwyer, in reviewing tile position, said that from information obtained through the visit of the Government expert to the Wairerc Falla, the County Council was unfavourable to the electrical scheme at the present time. In order to provide for extensions and the uUimate linking up of the line with the Government railway system, it was held that a steam railway service was of. gtoaler utility. A general discussion ensued in repect to the manner in which the project should be promoted, Bcme favouring the construction of a railway by the County Council; others being in favour o£ tho matter being taken in hand by a private company. Eventually it was decided that the matter should be brought before the County Council at next meeting.
