SERVICES APPRECIATED.

TESTIMONIAL TO INSPECTOR BENNETT. PRESENTATION OF ADDRESS. . A very pleasant function took place in the Hamilton Borough Council Chambers this week, when Inspector A. P. Bennet, Public Health Inspector for the Waikato district, was present* ed with an illuminated address by the drainage contractors of Hamilton, in recognition of his valuable services as drainage inspector for the past seven yearr. Mr E. Tish, who occupied the chair, said he deeply regretted the inspector's resignation. Owing to the growth of the borough and pressure of work in other departments, it had been necessary to appoint; another official, as Inspector Bennett was unable to cope with the work of the borough as well ai carry out his duties as Health Inspector. During the years he held the position, his experience, in drainage matters had al* ways been held in high esteem by the drain layers of Hamilton. The Mayor, Mr A. E. Manning, in making the presentation, said that the recipient had been connected with the Borough Council for many years, and it would have been impossible to have procured a more suitable officer for the position. Inspector Bennett had displayed plenty of common sense and tact, and bad not this been the case the Council would have experienced considerable trouble on many occasions, while he had always been prompt and courteous in the carrying out of his duties. During the small pox epidemic he did a tremendous amount of excellent work, which had been carried out to the entire satisfaction of all. Mr S. B. Sims. Borough Engineer, also made eulogistic reference to Inspector Bennett's many sterling qualities, and mentioned that he had come into contact with the Inspector perhaps more than anyone else present, and was in a position to know the excellent manner in which the had perfomed his municipal work. In acknwledgement. Inspector Ben nett said, be had been connected with the Borough Council for the past seven years, and was convinced that in no other town in the Dominion had municipal works been carried out so conscientiously as in Hamilton. "The presentation, from bis point of view, was an admirable one, as it was an expression that his services had been appreciated. In conclusion he thanked the Mayor for his kind remarks and wished the Council every success' in the future. The address read as follows:—"To A. P. Bennett, A.1.5.E., A.R.San.I., Public Health Inspector, Hamilton, Waikato. "Sir.-r-We, the undersigned drainage contractors of the Borough of Hamilton, desire to place on record the high esteem in which you have been held while carrying out your duties as Sanitary Inspector for the above named borough. While faithfully carrying out your important duties, we have alwaya found you to be courteous, prompt, impartial, reasonable and tactful; so that our relations have always been harmonious during the seven years thot you have held the position. While we regret the change which the growth of our town has made necessary, we congratulate yon on your success in the past, and hope it will be greater in the future wheresoever you may be placed. " We remain, your faithfully, "R. A. Andrews, Geo. Hayter, John Porter, Walter Dobhs, W. O. McFadden, His Worship the Mayor (Mr A. E. Manning), and S. B. Sims (Borough Engineer)."
