Mr Herries addressed a crowded meeting la&t night,the speech being en the lines of recent otterances, and any new matter being merely oC local interest. A vote of thanks and confidence in the Govern•' ment was carried on the voices by a large majority, an amendment of thanks only receiving scanty support. Replying to a deputation from the Bible in Schoolß League, asking for a referendum on tbe League's proposal the Minister could not reveal the > policy of the Government, recommending them to wait for the Governor's r Speech. Replying to a deputation of Maoris asking for the removal of the restrictions impteed during tbe epidemic against travelling on railways, ,Mr Berries said he would ihstrnet atatiocmasters to carry Maoris free of striction and would Bee the Minister in charge of the Health Department recommending that the embargo be removed. >
