CHURCH OF ENGLAND.
BISHOP OF AUCKLAND'S VISIT. On Sunday last services were conducted in the Church of England, Te Kuiti, by Bishop Averill. At the eleven o'clock service, thirty-one candidates were confirmed, and later in the day two others who were unwell, were privately confirmed. The service was a most impressive one. In addressing the candidates the Bishop took as his text "They continued steadfastly in the Apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and the breaking of the bread and the prayers." He appealed very strongly to the candidates to be steadfast throughout life. At the evening service the Bishop took his text from the fourth verse of the eighth Psalm, "What is man," and preached a most eloquent sermon. In plain and simple language he appealed to the highest principles of mankind, and indicated the upward path which the duty of man directed him to tread. At boih services the church was crowded to overflowing. 5 On Monday the Bishop accompanied by the Rev. E. S. Wayne, met the Maoris at Hangatiki, and received a great welcome, and subsequently at Otorohanga impressive services were held.
