WAITANGURU.

Own Correspondent.

The building of the new addition to the local hall has of late been delayed owing to shortage of match lining. The new supply has now arrived, and the completion of the addition will take place very shortly. The addition is divided into two rooms, one of which in to bo utilised aa a schoolroom ii which ia provided an open fireplace; the other ia to be used aB a ladies' dressing room. This achievemtnt ia one which has long been recognised as most essential, and will bo thoroughly appreciated by the whole district. School will then be held in the room set apart specially for it, and will then be aula to claim its independence. Apait from the public being exempt frona all responsibility for the displacing of books, desks, etc.. which always arise whore the schoolrom is utilised for all public functions, the master and scholars will feel more at home to have a room entirely for their own usage. , The latter room will bo no leas appreciated by the ladies, and not only will it prove most convenient, but will also tend to act as an inducement for more to attend the functions when they realise ihat there is provision made where they can make comfortable the wee ones, who are too young to leave at home, and who, if not taken make impossible I the attending of the parents. More over, this inducement will extend much further for when it becomes known beyond our district of the comfortable provision - provided, and the encouraging conditions as to our local functions it can serve only as conducive to the good of Waitanguru and its prosperity. A working bee on the Domain to be followed by a dance in the evening in the hall is to be hold on June 4th to celebrate the official opening of the new addition.

Matters in connection with t!:e progress of the district con .be witnessed everywhere. Mr H. Lowrie haa recently had erected a comfortable new two-roamed cottage nn his farm, whilst Mr N. Thomas has completed extensive imnrovementß to his residence. Mr G. Dew, who haa the timber on the ground, intends, I beliove, to add an addition to hia house. , _ Improvements in connection with dairying here are mo3t noticeable, and provide sufficient proof of the interest and vigour the settlers are displaying in the industry. Manv are erecting new and up to-date cow sheds, some installing milking machines, some new and expensive separators. The number of cowa to supply tho factory for next season promises to be largely in exceß3 of last season, as some new suppliers are coming in. Much importance can be attached to the fact that already some settlers aye culling their herds. Feed is Btill plentiful, and judging by the fact that none of the farmers are over-sfcosked, the cows ■should coma in in splendid condition.

Church service was held here on Sunday last at 11 s.m., the Rev. Mr Laughton officiating in place of Rev. Mr Ralph, Congregational, who is away in Auckland. The day was perfect and there wsa a good congregation. The next service ia to ba held on Sunday, 31st int., by the Rev. Mr Laughton. A hearty welcome is extended to everybody and I think it behoves all who can make it possible to attend these services to do so, for we all realise whet an uphill game tha ministers of the Gospel have to play in their good wotk in these backblocko.
