A CRYING SCANDAL.

TILTES FOR RICH NOBODIES.

SAUSAGES AND THE PEERAGE.

By Telegraph..—Press Association.— CopyrlprUt London, Thursday.

In introducing the bill to prohibit the sale of titles, Mr O. Locker-Lamp-son, Unionist, said that the acquisition of titles and honours by rich nobodies had Decome a crying scandal. If a member gave- £30,000 to the party fund 3 in the hope of translation to the Lords, he invariably said he did not want to become a lord, but that his wife wished to be a lady. The successful sale of sausages surely did not entitle a man to ait in the same House beside Lord Roberts. While the Chancellor catered for the million, the Chief Whip catered for the millionaire.

The House of Lords was only a Mecca for snobs.

Mr J. Hogge, Liberal, opposed the bill. He declared that they wanted to preserve the nubilitv by the infusion of fresh blood to save a decline. There waa also the question of maintaining the drama, whence the noblss could recruit ladies as a reward for their efforts.—-Laughter.

A bill has been introduced by Mr A. Ponsonby, Liberal, to providja for the termination of hereditary titles.
