RURAL DEVELOPMENT.

PROPOSED FREEZING WORKS

NEW VENTURES MOOTED,

The dev'eopment of the rural districts of the North Island is strongly indicated in respect to the movement in the direction of setting up of new freezing werks in suitable localities. The fact that no less than four new plants are contemplated in the immediate future says much for the progress which has taken place. The agreement to amalgamnte the proposed new Waikato and King Country Company with the Auckland Company, which has been operating largely in the Waikato, has been satisfactorily arranged, and this means that new works will be etablisshed in the near future close to Frankton, while the old Auckland works are to bo considerably enlarged. There seems to be every prospect of the proposed freezing works at Tai hape being established, the report of the the provisional directors being so satisfactory that it was decided by a meeting of over 100 farmers, that a company should ba registered for the purpose of erecting works to cost £30,000. 'lhe proposal to erect similar works at Feilding is advancing, the enterprise being called the Oroua and West Coast Meat and Produce Company. Representative farmers up and down the coast have promised substantial support. As a farmers' co-operative concern, it is likely to ba successful from the commencement. At Marton a movement is also on foot to establish works of the kind, very favourable proposals have been offered by the Wellington Meat Company, and a meeting of farmers is to he held to consider the matter. The proposed site of the Marton | works is at Kakariki.
