TE RAUAMOA.
General disappointment is expressed at the slow action of the Government in unkcking the unoccupied Crown lands of this district. At the junction of the Pirongia West road and tha Main Coach road is a stock reserve of nearly two hundred acres in extent. The land is almost level, is of firstclass quality, being well watered and suited in every way for a dairy farm. This is only one illustration of the many mistakes of past administrators, who deliberately locked up useful lands to be n menace and obstacle to neighbouring settlers, who are actually unable to ring fence their holdings unless they entered this stock reserve and destroyed soma of the Crown's timber, which act would certainly be breaidng the law. One law compels us to improve our holdings, another law would prevent us. Every practical bush farmer is aware that you cannot erect a fence under the Bhada of giant rata and rimu bush. At least a couple of chains of bush must be felled if the fence is to fulfill its purpose, i e.,make one's cattle secure. Where co-operative dairy factories are run in a new district, the want is always felt for more dairying land to support the enterprise. Here is a straightforward and legitimate method of the Government to foster an industry 3nd help an industry and help bona fine settlers. We have been favoured lately by springlike weather, which is keeping the paddocks fresh and green. There is no sign ynt of the iron grip of winter. A very pleasant and successful dance was held on Friday of last week in the hall. A number of outside visitorß were expected, but the unsettled Btnte of the elements prevented a better muster. East Te Rauamoa was Well represented.
