RE-TRIAL DISMISSED. GOVERNMENT'S GROSS NEGLECT. At the Supreme Court at Auckland 01 Thursday Mr Justice Cooper gave h's decision on the motion for a new Mai in the case of John Snowdon against the Waitomo County Council, in which the jury awarded plaintiff £3OO damages for injuries received to tis left hand, which had been shattered by detonators. The jury held that plaintiff's injuries were due to the carelessness of the Council's workmen. Plaintiff, who was a boy of 11 ysars, was playing with other boys near an abandoned forge upon unfenced land, and about a chain from the main road. Hib Honour commented severely on the gross negligence on the part of b >th the Government and the County Council's workmen for leaving detonators loosely about. He dismissed the motion for a re-trial, with coats.
