MAPIU.

Own Correspondent,

SCHOOL MATTERS.

At a meeting of householdeis held here on Monday of last week, the following were elected for the committee :_W. A. Coombridge, J. Andrew, R. A. Bowick, E. A. Guilford, D. McBeth, J. Donnelly, J. Taylor. Mr Coombridge was* elected chairman and Mr E. A. Guilford secretary. Great discussion took place at the householders' meeting over the Department's delay in proceeding with the erp.ction of the proposed new school, which has been under promise for some considerable time, but as usual with mo3i of State institution!? they wait for winter months before they make a move, with the rasult that roads are bad and work expensive. The powers that be appear to know very little about the worth of conveying timber, etc., on our King Country roads for according to a price that was read at the above meeting, I would advise tha Board either to move about a little more or send some capable person, who is able to put a price on work, otherwise do the work in the summer months and thereby save the State a deal of expanse. Before I leave this school matter I would take to mention that the money was voted by Government some considerable time ago, but why the delay? The present 80-called school measures 23ft 6in by lift 6in inside and has to accommodate 52 children and two teachers. It is high time that one or two msmDers of our Education Board were settlers from the waybacks. There is talk of a strike hare. Settlers are nearly full, and are threatening that, if the Board does not take some immediate action, they will cease sending children until such time as a school is erected.
