EARTHQUAKE IN SICILY.

HUNDREDS OF LIVES LOST.

VILLAGES IN RUINS. By Telegrirpli.—Press Association. —Copyright Rome, Monday. A terrible earthquake disaster occurred in Sicily on Thursday and Friday, involving the loss of hundreds of lives and the ruin of several villages. The centre of the disturbance appeared to be in the village of Linera, near the town of Aerieale, and from that point to the seaport of Catania the whole countryside was shaken. Tremours had been felt in the vicinity of Mount Etna for a fortnight, but they were not sufficient to cause any alarm to be felt until Thursday, when they began to increase in intensity.
