Lucille has married Ed. Wilson, but continues to receive visits from Tom Hughes, a former suitor, who works in tba same office aa her husband. Tom generally announces his arrival by a yodelling call outside the house. Edward takes to drink and is discharged. He starts for the West, where he loses his identity by changing clothes and papers with an unrecognisable victim. Tom identifies the -papers and the dead man is buried as Edward Wilson Two years later Lucille marries Tom. Meanwhile Edward is making good aa a forester in the great North-West. He becomes very wealthy, and one-day meets a clerk from biß former office, who informs him of Lucille's marriage, and of how Tom had so neglected her that she had died, suspicion pointing to Tom as her murderer. By means of the call, Edward reduces Tom to a state of absolute terror. He finally enters the housa, and in the straggle between them Edward is shot and dies a few minutes after his victim.
