Newton King reports:—

At Rahotu on Tuesday there was a fair entry of which practically everything as cieared as follows:—Mixed weaners 26s to 39a 6d, poor quality 18s 6d to 20s, weaner heifers 15a to 27a 6d, weaner steers,small 23s to 26s 6d, empty heifers £2 4a to £2 15s, store cows £2 5s to £3 18s 6d. On Wednesday at Kohuratahi for my monthly sale, I had only a small entry the majority of which cleared as follows: —Well-grown linea of weaner heifers 33s 6d to 345, weaner steers 36s 6d to 42s 6d for good, young store coW3 £3 63, 20 month steers, good £4 3s, other, rough 3 £3 12a 6d to £3 6s 6d, aged ewes sa, fat and forward ewes 15s sd.

Tbo High Commissioner's market report, dated London May 9th, is as follows:—

Mutton.—There has been a better tone in the market this week, aa the result of a general confidence in the maintenance of present prices. Canterbury 4Jd for lightweight. North Island 4Jd for lightweight. A small number of very beat best quality have sold at an advance of Jd in each case.

Lamb. —The market 13 firm, with improved demand. Canterbury, twos GJd, heavyweight s£d; other than Canterbury, 5 15-16 d. Beef. —There is better demand for beef. New Zealand hin.lquarters, 4 7-16 d per lb; forequarters, 3 7-16 d; chilled, hindquarters shd, forequarters, 3id. Butter. —The market is quiet. Danish, steady 112s to 114s; New Zealand, in fair demand 106s to 107s, exceptionally fine 108s; Australian, little doing 1009 to 104s; Argentine, unsalted, quiet 104s to 108 a; Siberian, steady 96s to IOO3; Irish creameries, good inquiry 104s to 10Ss. Cheese. —The market is weaker, with more inquiry at lower prices. Canadian, white 663 to 68a per cwt,, toloured 68a to 71a; New Zealand, white 60a to 61s Id, finest coloured 63s to 63s Gd, fine coloured 62s to 62s 6d; Australian, white 595, coloured 60s to 61s; fineßfc English cheddar, new make, 60s to 645; Scotch Cheddar, new make, 55s to 575. Wool. —The market is very firm. Americans are operating freely.
