WAIKATO HOSPITAL BOARD.

THE YEAR'S ESTIMATES

A LARGE INCREASE,

The estimates discussed at the Waikato Hospital and Charitable Aid Board's meeting dealt in some pretty tall figures. Last year the total expenditure was £15,313 3s Bd, but this year provision was made for an expenditure of, roughly, £25,000. The increase i= iargely due to the extensive scheme of electric light, heating water, which has been fully discussed by the board and approved of by the Health Department. This accounts for £7500, and provision was also made for a nursing home at Kawhia costing £750 and a resident doctor's house costing £450. After taking off all receipts, the secretary intimated that there was a sum of £18,803 to be met. Half of this would be borne by the Government, and the other half, £9451 10s, will be allocated to the local bodies, as against £5700 last year. The new valuation of local bod ies, as published below, shows an increase of nearly £4.000,000, and in the C"Be of the Waipa County, whose valuation has gone up considerably, the amount allocated to that council to be found for hospital and charitable purposes will be increased by easily 80 per cent. Several other bodies will be paying in like proportion, and members of the board wondered where all this taxation was going to end, and thought the time was ripe for some adjustment in the taxation. The following are the new valuations of the various local bodies:
