MANGAORINO SPECIAL RATE.
COLLECTED BY COUNTY
THE MATTER ADJUSTED,
In connection with the Mangaorino special loan which was raised by the Waitomo County Council prior to the setting up of the borough at Te Kuiti, there has recently been some difference between the Countv Council ar.d Borough Council with the ra?ult that the County Council issued rate notices to the ratepayers concerned in the special area who reaide within the borough. The difference was caused by a misunderstanding as to the terras of agreement entered into between county and borough after the borough was created. At a recent meeting of the Borough Council the Mayor was requested to interview the County chairman with a view to arriving at an agreement. At Monday evening's meeting of the Borough Council the Mayor reported that he had seen Mr Scholes and had been met in a most liberal spirit concerning the matter. Theru was no doubt an agreement on the original lines could be arrived at, but now that the rate notices had been issued by the County the rate for that period would have to be collected by the County. However, an agreement would be entered into which would prevent any further trouble and the borough would pay the amount direct to the County instead of the latter body collecting it from ratepayers inside the borough.
