PUBLIC RESERVES.
——— PROPOSAL TO BOROUGH. It has always been recognised that one of the disadvantages under which Te Kuiti suffers is the lack of reserves or endowments, an a proposal made to the Council at. last meeting will, if accepted; offset that drawback to some extent. Cr Howarth said Mr Lever had requested him to submit to tho Council a proposition offering to hand over to the borough an area of six acres as a public reserve subject to certain conditions. The conditions wera that the borough should take over without expense on Mr Lever's part that portion of the street leading from the Waiteti road to the proposed reserve. The Mayor said that under the conditions they were not getting anything for nothing, but if the borough could get a thousand pounds worth of property by doing five hundred pounds worth of work, which would also assist in developing the town it was at least worth considering. On the motion of Crs Howarth and Mostyn Jones, the matter was referred to the Reserves Committee to inspect and report.
