HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLEGRAM.

Wellington, Monday. The following is the High ,Commissioner's market report, dated London, April 18th,quotations unless otherwise specied, being average market prices on spot:— Mutton. —The market is very dull, and has been unfavourably affected by lsrge arrivals of mutton and chilled beef. There i 3 no demand for heavyweight. Canterbury 4Jd per lb, North Island 41d. Both for lightweight. Ewe 3§d. Lamb. —The market is steady, the demand being chiefly for lightweight. Canterbury twos 6Ji per lb, heavyweights 5Jd, other than Canterbury 6d lightweight. A limited demand exista for poorer grades, which are in competition with Australian.

Beef.—The market is unsettled. New Zealand hinds 4gd, fores 3|d. Chilled hinds 4fd, fores 3Jd. Butter. —The market is quiet, the demand being chiefly for best quality, with a limited demand for poorer grades. The Danish market is quiet at 114s to 116s per cwt., New Zealand in increasing demand 106s to 108s, unsalted, for which the demand exceeds the supply, 114s to 118 a, Australian, fair demand, 100s to 104s, Argentine, poor demand 96s to 100s/, Siberian, moderate demand 100s to 104s. ,; Cheese. —The market is quiet but steady. The Canadian stock is small, and prices are nominal. Canadian white, per cwt. 68s to 70s, coloured 693 to 71s, New Zealand finest whits 61s 6d to 625, tine white 60s fid *o 61s, finest coloured 649 to 64s 6d, fine coloured 63s to 63s 6d, Australian white 60s, coloured 62s to 635, secondary 58s to 595. Wool. —The market remains firm.
