Assault. —A European named James South and a Maori named Peter Wi were charged with assaulting Harry Ford. Mr Sharpies appeared fur the defendant Wi, and South was undefended. The evidence showed that the defendats went to the house of a man named Walker, and while there a brawl took place ii which all were mixed up, but South appeared to be the aggressor. On the application of Mr Sharpies the case against Peter Wi was dismissed The defendant South said he remembered very little about tha occurrence. He was under the influence of liquor. Sergeant Rowell said South was a man who became beyond control when under the influence of liquor. There had been nothing against defendant for some time, but there were a number of convictions against him for assault. His Worship, in convicting South, said he was evidently a cangerous man in liquor. If he was not careful he might find himself answering a charge of manslaughter. He would be fined £5 and costs. Defaulting Territorials. —For failing to attend drill in accordance with the Defence Act, the following fines were inflicted on the various defendants:—C. D. Ogier 203 and costs 7s; D. McDonald, £2 —7s; A. Walker, 10s—7s; 'P. A. Mclnteer, costs 7s; N. Cole. £3—7s; J. Houlton, 53—75; J. Larsen, £l—l7s 6d; L. New. £l—7s; J. W. Larsen, £4 —7s; C. Harrison, 10s—7; L. Harper, ss—7s; A. E. Williams. £1 7s; H. A. New. 10s—7s; G. W Albrechtsen, 10s—7s.
