AMERICA CUP CONTEST.

TRIO OP DEFENDERS. DATES OF THE RACES. The yachts building to defend the America Cup each measure 75ft on the waterline. The Resolute will be 104 ft over all, the Vanity 112 ft, and the Defiance 108 ft. These three vessels are being built by three syndicates composed of wealthy members of the New York Yacht Club. The first race will take plate on September 10th of this year, the second oil the 12tb, and the third on the 15th. The British yacht will bo 75t long. THE SHAMROCK IV. The fourth challenge by Sir Thomas Lipton for the America Cup was made in May last year. His new yacht will be named the Shamrock IV.—he has a great belief in the four-leaved shamrock. The services of Sycamore and Wringe—two of the best-known skippers in Great Britain have been engaged for the races, but it has not yet been settled who will actually have the steering of Shamrock IV. It is possible that the loss of Barr, who was considered one of the greatest skippers in the world, but who has now passed away, will considerably reduce America's chances of retaining the Cup. "I have greater hopes of success than ever I had before," oaya Sir Thomas, "and I am looking forward with confidence to crarying off the Blue Riband of the Sea."
