BOWLING.
The apporach of the Easter tournaments is infusing fresh interest into bowling as far as the local players are concerned. The green is well patronised, and is playing remarkably well. At the time of writing there is p 'erj probability of at least one learn taking part in the Cambridge tournament, and it will cause no surprise Hhould two rinks be found available for the trip. There is also a prospect of a couple of pairs competing in the Auckland championship games, and if Power and Cochrane decide to make the trip to the city they should take a considerable amount of beating.
Earlier in the season there appeared to be every prospect of a first year team also computing at Auckland, but other engageents will probably prevent the colts from taking part.
The local competitions have provided a great amount of interest, and the qonteat for the championship singles provide quite a lot of excitement.. It was generally held that the final would be fought out between Cochrane and Power, but when the former succumbed to Julian early in the competition it appeared as though Power would retain the badgn of supremacy. However, when the meeting between the two players mentioned tonk place Cochrane scored a decisive win, and Power, being subsequently defeated by Boles.Coehrane finished the competition with a game in hand, and takee rank as the champion for the season. The winner is to be congratulated on his form, which has been consistently good and has thoroughly justified his claim to the title.
The Jackson Cup competition has also afforded considerable excitement. The conditions of the competition decree that the players in the various sections who have most wins to their credit at the md of this month will be declared the Bection winners, and Will play off for the trophy. At present it appear*; as though Power, Cochrane, and Sharpies will be returned in the A, B. and (J sections, and Matthew Bhould stand a good chance in D Section providing he plays up 1o the good form he has shown throughout the season The finals should be brimful of interest, as the struggle for the trophy among those in the running will be very keen.
