AND THE COUNTY CHAIRMAN. The Editor. Sir, —In the issue of the King Country Chronicle of the 25th u't. there is published a letter in respect of the above under the nom-de-plume uf "One Who Knows." As certain controversies have taken place in regard not only to the statements contained in such letter, but also to the identity of the ' undisclosed writer. I am availing myself of the medium of your paper to state publicly that I. the undersigned, was the writer of the said letter. In thus disclosing my identity I wish to state emphatically that no innuendo of a personal nature, malignant or otherwise harmful to the personal character and reputation of the County chair man (Mr Scholes), was, or could have been intended by the letter in question. The letter was written to act only as a refutation politically to any misapprehension that might Have been caused, as I personally knew that the information given to Mr Scholes aa to Mr Wilson being the Minister's informant was erroneous. I regret that my letter should have bee: interpreted (contrary Lo its intention) as a serious personal refaction upon 'Mr Scholes, who, as chairman of the Waitomo County Courcil has many sacrificial and thankless duties to psrform. I trust sincerely that this explanation will satisfactorily clear up, in the mind of the public, any false ur unfair impression towards Mr Scho! n s that mieht have been gleaned from reading the letter referred to In conclusion I may state that Mr Scholes has a:oepted my explanation as above and no further steps will be taken. —I am, etc., ELIAS MARTIN.
