TRANSVAAL GOLD.

With the dividends distributed in J913 by the Transvaal goldmining companies, the aggregate return to shareholders since the discovery of the field ia brought up to £IOO,OOO The compilation made by th 6 Financial Times gives the total payments for 1913 as £8,516,956, as compared with £8,210.362 in 1912 and £8,066,437 in 1911. In view r/f the serious dislocation of the industry through labour troubles about the middle of last year, it would not have been surprising had the total payments fallen short of the 1912 figures. Instead however, an increase of £306,594 is shown. The chief contributor to the total was the Crown mines, with a sum of £1,034,116, which is the same an the payment for the previous year, and represents a return of 110 per cent, on the capital of the company. Even that larfe payment left a surplus of estimated earnings of £253,784. The faiast Rand comes Becond on the list, wtih a total distribution of £611,474, or the same as in 1912, the percentage return or. the company's capital being 25 pel cent., while the surplus earnings remaining was estimated at £288,526 The figures relating to the Rondfontein Central are of interest in showing that, despite the ioubling of the distribution which required £419,370 there was a margin of estimated earnings of £424,830.
