LOADINGS ON CROWN LANDS. Own Correspondent. A Moeatoe settler recently in writing to the Minister of Public Works anent the roading of the district, pointed out the reminder that when settlers took up their lands they were loaded so much par acre for roading purposes, to give proper access. This ia the general impiegßion of most settlers, and the question of loadings has always presented itself as a puzzle. Thj Minister's remarks, which are aa follows, ara of interest: —"Referring to your contention that owing to {he blocks of land in question having been loaded, there is an obligation on the part of the Government to provide the settlers with a complete access, I have to point out that the amount of loading is invari ably quite insufficient to complete the work, an:? it therefore becomes necessary, when the loading has been expended, to provide from time to fciKe on the Public Works Estimates such amounts as the funds available will permit, for the completion and extension of road works. When dealing wi(h the provision of money on the Public Works Estimates, as part from loading, the main consideration is a desire to best serve the interests of a district."
