AUSTRALIA v. CANTERBURY

Canterbury made a very had start against the Australians yesterday, losing four wickets for 40. Sandman and Patrick then effected a good stand and took the score to 147 before ths former hit the ball into his wicket. The tail livened up and the respectable total of 258 was ultimately reached.
The Australians without the loss of wicket put on 54, Waddy scoring 35 snd Collins 19. Scores:—
Canterbury, first innings.—Woods 0, Oaygill 8, Hickmott 3, Beal 17, Patrick 78, Sandman 61, Bishop 14. Carlton 26, Monaghan 21, Bennett 10, Boxshall 10, extras 10.—Total 258. Armstrong took five wickets for 90, Crawford four for 51, Noble one for 34, Mailey none for 37, Laver none for 36.
