BUTCHERS' STRIKE.
MEN READY TO COMPROMISE,
ON HALF THEIR DEMANDS. REJECTED BY EMPLOYERS. By Telegraph—Press Association.—Copyright Sydney, Monday, The original proposal by Mr Estell, Minister for Labour, to increase the wages of the butchers' employees by ss, and to make their hours 49J per week, has, it is stated, been submitted to the men and accepted. The men are prepared to continue the struggle if the masters do not agree to these terms. It is understood that the master butchers are against the acceptance of the proposals submitted, but no official intimation has been given. It is reported that the employers will to-day ask for Government assistance in removing meat from cold storage. A meeting of the Bakers' Union unanimously decided to adopt legal conciliatory methods in obtaining their requirements from their employers.
