THE GENERAL ELECTION.
PROSPECTIVE CANDIDATES. [by telegkaph.—press association.] Wellington, Monday. Sir Joseph Ward intends addressing a meeting at Lower Wairarapa shortly. Liberals of that district have under consideration the name of a prominent member of the legal profession, who has for the past twenty year's been actively associated with the Wairarapa Liberal party, The chairman of a local body is freely mentioned. Mr J. T. M. Hornsby, who has for nearly eigteen years borne the brunt of battle in Wairarapa, and was twice successful, will not be a candidate. Mr Bell, member for Wellington Suburbs, announces that he is not seeking re-election. His decision is due to office reasons. Two members of Mr Bell's firm are at present engaged in politics, the result being that during the session the remaining three partners have been compelled to do the whole work of the office. Mr Bell feels, that it would not be fair to continue that position for a further three years. Mr J. P. Luke. Mayor of Wellington, who stood as an Independent for Suburbs at the last election, is tinderstood to be still in the field.
