SYDNEY MEAT STRIKE.

NO SETTLEMENT YET. By Telegraph..—Press Association— OopyrigM Received Tuesday, 7 p.m. Sydney, Tiesday. Immediately upon landing Mr Holman joined the full Cabinet in discussing the strike and remained in session the greater part of the day. For several days plain clothes constables have been making inquiries regarding the master butchers sources for the supply of meat, methods of distribution, prices, and other matters, and the result has been placed before Cabinet. The Industrial Registrar also interviewed the members of the men s council.

The people are getting restive owing to the protracted meat hunger, the master butchers' supply falling far short of the demand. Many households have been meatless for a week excepting what levies the fowlyards yielded. Increasing quantities arß being obtained privately from the country, and the stress at North Sydney has been relieved by the outside slaughtermen providing a limited supply to be sold. London sales are continued daily and larger consignments are promised at Paddington.

A pork butcheer broke away and stocked his shop with mutton. He did a roaring trade, but. eventually the inspectors threatened prosecution on the ground that the place was not licensed as a butcher's shop.
