N.Z. FARMERS' UNION.
MANGAORONGA BRANCH. Own Correspondent. Tbe annual picnic of the Bettlera of Rangiatea and Maihiihi was held at Mangaoronga laßt Monday, under the außpiceß of the above union in Mr David Ormbsy's paddock. The occasion was eagerly looked forward to by ynnng and old, and neither were disappointed for the day was glorious and the programme exceptionally good. The children especially enjoyed the day, for not a child went away without a prize or present. Some of the events proved most exciting, especially the tug-of-war Rangiatea v. Maihiihi. After three strenuous and moat exciting pulls Maihiihi proved victorio is by two pulls to one. In the race riding the horse back to front Farmer would have won easily had he not brougt his helm to port instead of to starboard, and anchored up in a fence in the opposite direction from the winning post. The committee deserve high praise for the manner in which the many visitors were catered for, and the way in which they got through such a lengthy programme so successfully. The public of Otorohanga and the prinicpal firms of Auckland provided some beautiful prizes, amongst which was a bridle from Mr Verner, a set of carvers from Mr Banner, of Otorohanga, and a silver tea pot from Me srs Goodfellow, of Hamilton. The greasy pig proved very slippery for he was missing the folllowing morning when hie new owner went to inspect his capture. The following are the results of the events — Married men's race.
