HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. Wellington, Monday. The following is the High Commissioner's market report dated London, February 14th, quotations unless otherwise stated being average market prices on spot:— Meat.—Generally, on account of dull trade, holders are accepting a small reduction in prices, with the result that there is better demand for mutton and lamb Mutton.—North Island 4|d per lb, ewes 4|d. lamb, other than Canter- - bury 6*d per lb. ■ Beef.—The market i 3 steady. New Zealand hinds 4}d, fores 4d. Supplies of American chilled beef are large, with good demand. Hinds sd, fores 44. Butter.—The market is quiet, and prices are slightly weaker for New Zealand. The expected demand has not materialised. Danish, market quiet 120s to 123s per cwt.; New Zealand, market quiet 113s to 116s; Australian, fair demand 109s to 112s* Argentine, Siberian, fair demand 110s to 112s. Cheese. —The market is steady. Prices are well maintained, with fair demand for New Zealand. The market is firm for Canadian, owing to short supply. Canadian white 68s to 70s, coloured 70s to 725; New Zealand white 63s to 64, coloured 65s to 66s Hops.—The market is weaker and prices slightly lower, though full supply has increased buying. English 130s to 160s per cwt.; American 90s to 120s. Wool.—'The market remains firm. Good business has been done, both in tops and yarns. Spinners are much better employed.
